Student Travel Grant                         National Science Foundation

MobiSys 2011 is pleased to provide travel support to selected US based graduate students to broaden the participation in our main conference and workshops. Travel support will provide up to $800 per student to help cover the cost of the student's travel, lodging, meals, and conference registration fees. We encourage the participation from women, underrepresented minorities, and persons with disabilities. Preference will be given to PhD Forum participants and presenters at the main conference but we will also seriously consider applications from presenters of posters, demos, or papers at other MobiSys 2011 workshops. Travel support is made possible by a grant from the National Science Foundation.

Applications for the travel award should be sent electronically as a single PDF attachment to the Mobisys 2011 Travel Award Committee Chair (nadeem@cs.odu.edu) by May 13, 2011. The subject line of the email should be: MobiSys 2011 Travel Grant Application. An application should consist of the student's CV, a short personal statement (maximum one page), and a supporting letter from the student's advisor.

The student's short personal statement should include:

1. A brief summary of research interests and accomplishments to date.
2. A description of areas reflected in the MobiSys 2011 program that would impact the student's research.
3. Importance of attending the conference to the student's research activities.

In addition, the student's advisor should send a letter of recommendation to the committee. It should include:

1. Confirmation that the student is a Ph.D. candidate in good standing.
2. The suitability of MobiSys 2011 program to the student's research area.
3. Ways in which attending the conference would benefit the particular student.
4. The strengths and potential contributions of the student.
5. The financial needs of the student in traveling to MobiSys 2011.

Applications will be reviewed by the MobiSys Travel Awards Committee, and the awards will be announced prior to the conference. Alternates will be notified in the event that a recipient declines. Late registration fees will be waved for travel grant awardees.

N^2 Women Fellowships

N^2 Women Fellowships

N^2 Women (Networking Networking Women) encourages applications for the N^2 Women Student Fellowship. Funding for this fellowship has generously been provided by HP Labs, Microsoft Research, and SIGMOBILE. The awards will partially cover a student's travel cost (up to $500) and, in exchange, the student must help organize the N^2 Women meeting. The benefit of doing the organization, in addition to the travel funds, is for the student to connect with the organizers of the conference who are, typically, leaders in the research field. We will arrange for a faculty or research member of N^2 Women to assist/mentor the student in this task.

To apply for the N^2Women fellowship, please see: http://committees.comsoc.org/n2women/ and click the Fellowships link. The deadline has been extended to May 13, 2011.
