This year MobiCom turns 20. The birthday
celebrations begin with your setting foot on
the beautiful island of Maui, Hawaii, which
was specifically chosen for this reason. But
that's not all, once you are here, we have
planned a series of exciting events that are
described below. Please join us as we
celebrate all that is good about our community
and have a fantastic time together.

12:30 - 14:00 |
Experience
and Wisdom meets Youth and
Stamina Luncheon
Organizer: Romit Roy Choudhury
Conferences are
meant to be events where we make
new friends, meet and interact
with younger and older people from
diverse backgrounds and interests.
Reality, however, is that most of
us tend to huddle within our own
social circles, often feeling
shy/hesitant to join others.
Students hangout with students.
Seniors cluster with seniors. This
luncheon will serve as a "social
cocktail", where senior and junior
spirits mix and spend time with
each other.

Sandcastle
Making Competition - Are you the
Best?
Organizer: Lin Zhong
Form teams of
four, give it a name and show us
your talent. As you build your
sculpture, keep in mind there are
4 tricks to castle-building. (1)
Use moist sand. The best place to
find this sand is below the tide
line; (2) start with a densely
packed mound of sand. To get the
best density, build up the mound
gradually until you reach the
desired height; (3) shave away
sand in thin layers. This way
you'll have more control when
you're carving design details; and
(4) work from top to bottom.
You'll lessen the chance that
falling sand or an ill-placed knee
will ruin your work.
Your castle will
be judged by a panel of "experts"
and the winner team will be
announced at the grand dinner
banquet.

Startup Pitch Contest
Organizers: Sung-Ju Lee and Eugene Lee
Judges: Eugene Lee, Claire Cheng and Leonard Kleinrock
Here you will get the chance to make a pitch to Silicon Valley Venture Capitalists and entrepreneurs at MobiCom! You will follow a similar pitch process as recommended by the VCs. The finalists will make a pitch at MobiCom in front of the judges and MobiCom attendees and get constructive feedback from the VCs and entrepreneurs. The winning team will get invited to a Silicon Valley Venture Capital office to make a formal pitch. Consider this contest as a free training session! Any MobiCom 2014 attendees are eligible. You can pitch any "good" ideas, including those from your papers, demos, posters, apps, or your daydream!

The
Anagrammatic-OCA Matchmaking
Game
Organizer: Ranveer Chandra
Here's a great
opportunity to make new friends,
win bragging rights, and just
maybe something else. Here's how
the game works: you will randomly
pick a piece of paper from a
bucket. The paper will have either
the first or the last name of an
OCA awardee. Each participant will
get one piece of paper. Now you
have to go around the room and
meet up with a participant who has
the other half of the name. Then
you have to find players who have
already matched their names and
form a team. The team with the
most matches will win. Ideally
there would be 30 people (for the
15 OCA winners), who will group
together and claim the first
prize. Winners will be announced
during the dinner banquet.
