Convitto_della_Calza

The conference will be organized in the Convitto della Calza a beautiful ancient monastery recently renovated and transformed in a meeting center. Besides modern meeting facilities, the Convitto features a wonderful XIV century cloister. The Convitto della Calza is located in a strategic position in the heart of the historical center of Florence, surrounded by Palazzo Pitti, Boboli Gardens, and Piazzale Michelangelo. Most of Florence's major attractions and the Santa Maria Novella Railway Station (the main Florence's station) are within walking distance from the Convitto, and they can be reached also by bus.

It has been estimated that approximately 60% of the artworks worldwide are located in Italy. Half of these artworks are hosted in Florence, the capital of Italian's Renaissance. Masterpieces of artists such as Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Botticelli, Raffaello, Caravaggio, and many others are spread in Florence's worldwide known museums, churches, and roads. Tuscany

Florence is located in the very heart of beautiful Tuscany, a region of Italy which is worldwide known for the many historical cities and villages (Siena, Pisa, Lucca, San Gimignano, just to cite a few), and for the beautiful countryside which produces famous wines and olive oil. Thanks to its central location, Florence is the ideal starting point for visiting Tuscany's beauties.

How to reach Florence

Florence is located in the center-north of Italy, and it can be easily reached by car/train from Italy and surrounding countries. For those traveling from other countries, the easiest way to reach Florence is by airplane.

Florence Amerigo Vespucci International Airport is located about 4km north-west from the city center. Florence's airport features direct flights to/from many major cities in Europe, such as Amsterdam, Barcelona, Bruxelles, Frankfurt, Geneva, London, Madrid, Milan, Munich, Paris, Rome, Wien, and many others, and it is served by major airlines such as Alitalia, Airfrance, Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa, Meridiana, Sabena and SwissAir. The city center can be easily reached from the airport by taxi (average cost is about 15 Euros), or by bus. The bus service runs from 8am to 7pm Mon-Fri, and from 8am to 1pm Sat-Sun. The cost of a one-way ticket is 4 euros, and the travel time is about 20 minutes to reach Santa Maria Novella Railway Station, in the very heart of Florence. A valuable, and perhaps cheaper, alternative for those traveling by airplane is Pisa Galileo Galilei International Airport, which is located in Pisa, about 80Km West of Florence. Pisa's airport features direct flights to/from many major cities in Europe, such as Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Bruxelles, Cologne, Dublin, London, Madrid, Milan, Munich, Paris, Rome, and many others. Besides major airlines (Alitalia, Airfrance, Bristish Airways, Iberia, and Lufthansa), the airport is served by several low-cost companies, such as Ryan Air, Transavia, HapagLoyd Express, and Easy Jet. There are frequent bus and train services connecting Pisa's airport to Florence. The cost of a train ticket for Santa Maria Novella Railway Station (the main Florence's train station) is about 5.10 Euros, and the travel time is about 75 minutes.
