MobiSys 2016 Student Scholarship

We are pleased to announce that we are offering full scholarships for students to attend ASSET, MobiSys, and both workshop days (note exceptions stated below). These scholarships will cover the following:

  1. Full registration for ASSET, both workshop days (June 26th and June 30th), and the full MobiSys conference (June 27th – June 29th)
    • Note: The MobiSys reception on June 26th evening and the MobiSys banquet on June 28th evening are excluded from this registration. These are the only two events that are excluded. Everything else (demo/poster sessions, workshops, ASSET field trip etc.) is included. Breakfast and lunch will be provided on all ASSET, workshop, and main conference days.
  2. 8 days of accommodation (triple share at a 3 star hotel located a 15 min walk away from the conference venue) from June 22nd (arrival) until June 30th (checkout). It is expected that attendees will attend workshops on June 30th and then take a night flight back home.
  3. SGD 450.00 to cover airfare and other expenses. This amount will be provided on a reimbursement basis based on actual submitted receipts (we will cover up to SGD $450 or the actual expenses – whichever is lower).

These scholarships are provided to allow any student, regardless of financial ability, the opportunity to attend ASSET, MobiSys, and the various workshops. The main review criteria for the award will be the financial need of the student. Underrepresented minorities and women students from diverse institutions are particularly encouraged to apply.

Applications for the travel award should be sent electronically as a single PDF attachment to the Mobisys 2016 Travel Award Chairs, at mobisys2016-scholarships@acm.org, by May 10, 2016. The subject line of the email should be: MobiSys 2016 Student Scholarship. An application should consist of the student's CV, a short personal statement (maximum one page), and a supporting letter from the student's advisor.

The student's short personal statement should include:

  1. A brief summary of research interests and accomplishments to date.
  2. A description of areas reflected in the MobiSys 2016 program that would impact the student's research.
  3. Importance of attending the conference to the student's research activities.
  4. The submission number of the student’s ASSET research proposal submission. This number can be retrieved from the ASSET Easychair submission website.

In addition, the student's advisor should send a letter of recommendation separately to the chair. It should include:

  1. Confirmation that the student is in good standing. Note: We will accept applications from Ph.D., Masters, and undergraduate students working on relevant research problems.
  2. The suitability of MobiSys 2016 program to the student's research area.
  3. Ways in which attending the conference would benefit the particular student.
  4. The strengths and potential contributions of the student.
  5. The financial needs of the student in traveling to MobiSys 2016.
  6. Indicate how the remainder of your travel cost, not covered by the award (if any), will be covered.

The MobiSys Travel Awards Committee will review applications, and the awards will be announced by May 15, 2016. Note: The conference registration and hotel charges will be paid directly by the conference. The airfare and expense award (up to SGD 450) will be paid after the conference by the ACM directly to the student – after the appropriate receipts have been submitted to the ACM student travel reimbursement portal.
