SIGMOBILE Student Travel Grant for MobiSys 2015
The SIGMOBILE Executive Commitee has created additional grants to support student travel to MobiSys 2015, complementary to the previously awarded NSF Student Travel Grants. This support will be used to select both US and Non-US based graduate students to broaden the participation in our main conference and co-located events (Workshops, Ph.D. Forum, Poster, Demo sessions, etc.). Underrepresented minorities and women students from diverse institutions are particularly encouraged to apply.
Applications for the travel award should be sent electronically as a single PDF attachment to the Mobisys 2015 Travel Award Chair, Tamer Nadeem, at nadeem@cs.odu.edu by April 24th, 2015. The subject line of the email should be: MobiSys 2015 Travel Grant Application. An application should consist of the student's CV, a short personal statement (maximum one page), and a supporting letter from the student's advisor.
The student's short personal statement should include:
- A brief summary of research interests and accomplishments to date.
- A description of areas reflected in the MobiSys 2015 program that would impact the student's research.
- Importance of attending the conference to the student's research activities.
In addition, the student's advisor should send a letter of recommendation separately to the chair. It should include:
- Confirmation that the student is a Ph.D. candidate in good standing.
- The suitability of MobiSys 2015 program to the student's research area.
- Ways in which attending the conference would benefit the particular student.
- The strengths and potential contributions of the student.
- The financial needs of the student in traveling to MobiSys 2015.
- Indicate how the remainder of your travel cost, not covered by the award, will be covered.
The MobiSys Travel Awards Committee will review applications, and the awards will be announced by April 24, 2015. Please note that MobiSys 2015 conference may not be able to reimburse you for all of your travel expenses due to limited budget. Eligible expenses for reimbursement include advance student registration, hotel, and air travel (using a US air carrier for US based graduate students). Expenses that are not eligible for reimbursement include regular and/or on-site registration, meals, and local transportation (taxis, shuttles, parking, etc.). Student travel grants are available in the form of reimbursements that are sent only after the completion of the conference and receipt of all required documentation and receipts. The reimbursement amount will be based on the number of awards and it is expected to be about at $1,500 per student. For any questions, please contact the MobiSys 2015 Travel Award Chair, Tamer Nadeem, at nadeem@cs.odu.edu.

N2 Women Young Researcher Fellowship
N2 Women is pleased to announce the continuation of our N2 Women Young Researcher Fellowship awards. N2Women considers you a young researcher if you are currently a student, working as a post-doc, or in the 1st or 2nd year of your new research career. These awards will partially cover a young researcher's travel cost (up to $500) to a meeting where an N2 Women event will be held. In exchange, the young researcher must help organize the N2 Women meeting. The benefit of doing the organization, in addition to the travel funds, is for the young researcher to connect with the organizers of the conference who are, typically, leaders in the research field. We will arrange for a faculty or research member of N2 Women to assist/mentor the young researcher in this task.
Support for these N2 Women Young Researcher Fellowship awards has been generously provided by Microsoft Research, IEEE CS TCCC and by HP Labs. SIGMOBILE is also supporting these N2 Women Young Researcher Fellowship awards by covering all the costs associated with the processing of the funds.
To apply for a fellowship or for more information, please see: http://committees.comsoc.org/n2women/ and click the Fellowships link. We are particularly interested in young researchers organizing events at the following upcoming venues:
The deadline for applying is 1 week (7 days) after the full paper acceptance notification. Please note that we consider the actual notification date, when the notification emails were sent out (which is, perhaps, not the announced date on the conference website).
Acceptance notification is 2 weeks after the application deadline.
